Ri3D came up briefly during the meeting Wednesday. For those new to the term, here’s a video to get you started. It is really fun to watch the several Ri3D projects take place. Just be sure to keep an open mind and still work on your own ideas!
This is where we hope to have one or more students write about the 2017 Warlocks experience. Volunteers requested!
You can see some examples among the archived posts from last year.
The FIRST Robotics Competition begins for the 2017 season this Saturday with Kickoff, the game reveal that sets the stage for the world-wide competition.
The Warlocks will be meeting at the school to view the game reveal video and immediately begin planning the 2017 strategy. The school will be open at 9:00 am. Attendance is mandatory for all student team members, and parents, sponsors, former team members, and the general public are welcome to attend.
When the kickoff video is over, the team will immediately begin studying the rules and developing a game strategy for the season. The team has been preparing by studying the basics of robot construction and recently completed sessions on brainstorming techniques. The hope is to have a strategy and design direction developed after three days. There will also be an optional day on Sunday afternoon at the Lockport YMCA.

The Warlocks will be competing at the Finger Lakes Regional from March 24th to March 26th. After our semi-finalist finish at the Greater Pittsburgh regional earlier in the season, the Warlocks are looking forward to improving at the Finger Lakes Regional. We have made several changes and fixes to both our code and robot, including improving our Autonomous and repairing our damaged arm/collector.
The regional event will take place in the Gordon Field House at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. More than 40 teams will be in attendance, including several winners and finalists from earlier regionals. Make sure to check out the webcast and event results pages listed below in order to keep up with the Warlocks as we compete throughout the weekend.

The Warlocks competed at the Greater Pittsburgh Regional on March 10-12. We faced some challenges with the robot, but made steady progress through the weekend and ended up being chosen to join the #3 alliance. We made it to the semi-final level before we were eliminated.
While the Warlocks didn’t bring home any awards this weekend, we worked out a lot of kinks, and will be better prepared to compete at Fingerlakes in two weeks.
The Warlocks will be competing at the Greater Pittsburgh Regional from March 10th-12th. This is the first of our two regional competitions this season, where we will be competing for a spot at the World Championship in St. Louis. Below you can find everything you need to follow The Warlocks as we compete for a spot at the World Championships at The Greater Pittsburgh Regional.
The Greater Pittsburgh regional competition is located in California University of Pennsylvania’s Convocation center. The address of the venue is listed below. Our Itinerary for the trip and any other important info will be posted soon.

The webcast for the Greater Pittsburgh Regional will be available on the blue alliance, along with several other community run sites for aggregating webcasts for all official FRC Events. We recommend using the blue alliance, as they are typically the most reliable.
Unfortunately, FIRST doesn’t have a standardized method of webcasting their events, which leaves each individual event responsible for running and maintaining their own webcast. It is possible that the community run webcast could experience lag and/or technical difficulties throughout the competition weekend.
Below is a direct link to GameDay, which is the name of The Blue Alliance’s webcast portal. To watch the Greater Pittsburgh Regional, hover over the webcasts link in the top left and drag “Greater Pittsburgh” into one of the viewing panes below.
Delphi Elite, Team 48, is providing the video stream. It can be found directly at http://delphielite.com/2016-greater-pittsburgh-regional/
There are many different sources for match schedules and results, but the only official source is from FIRST themselves. Below are links to the official FIRST event result pages for the Greater Pittsburgh Regional. (Posted by Kierstan on Facebook. It was so awesome, I wanted to share here…)
Build season is officially over. I ended build season by putting the tag on the bag, which is a pretty big deal. I made Dean’s list. I learned to weld. I made parts by myself for the robot. I learned so much and honestly, thank you Evan for pushing me and being hard on me. We updated the teams pride and joy, Zeus, which they used our ball collecting idea for the robot. Pulling the robot down the hallway in the bag honestly made me so upset. The past stressful six weeks flew by and everything we worked on is now in a plastic bag. I didn’t think it was possible to have a 16 inch robot but we do and I’m amazed at what we accomplished. Competition is in 15 days though and I’m super excited! Let’s go Warlocks! And yes, I just got home from a 15 hour school day.

Sealing the deal (bag)

Pride in a job well done!

Off to storage.
