The Warlocks in Lockport Old Home Week Parade

A bunch of the team turned out on a hot and muggy Saturday to show our team spirit in the Lockport Old Home Week Parade. The hardy members walked from Eastern Niagara Hospital on East Ave. to Ida Fritz Park on Park Ave.

A huge turnout of parade watchers was lined up along the route to see the parade and we showed off our two robots to the city.

Help the Warlocks help others with Relay For Life

The team has decided to participate in the Relay For Life, a benefit for the American Cancer Society this summer. The event will be held June 19 - 20, 2010 from 2pm to 6am at the Emmet Belknap Track.

Relay For Life is a team fundraiser where groups walk for 16 hours, overnight, to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer. The Warlocks will be working as a team, keeping at least one member on the track the whole time.

Besides the relay, there are many other fun activities and events while it goes on. The Warlocks hope to have a tent to display information on our team and even have our robot there. Maybe we can even do a lap with the robot?!?

Team members can help out by participating in the relay. Familys and friends can help as well by sponsoring out team members through pledges. For more information and to sign up/pledge please visit the Warlocks Relay for Life web page.

Warlocks Awards & Sponsor Appreciation Dinner Held

An annual tradition was observed this week as we held our awards dinner. Outstanding students were recognized for their contributions to the team, as well as congratulating our graduating seniors, many of who are slated to attend an array of prominent colleges next year.

We also took time to thank and acknowledge our many sponsors for their support and belief in our program.

Following some video recaps of the season and our work, and a buffet dinner, students invited sponsors and family members to try their hand at driving a robot. We had both the current Breakaway robot from this year, and last year's robot in operation as well. It was fun to see the two robots pass balls back and forth.

Warlocks Receive Awards at Fingerlakes

The Warlocks robot score bonus points hanging from the bar

Our team attended the FIRST Fingerlakes Regional Competition held at the RIT Gordon Field House on March 4-6, 2010. We played well and advanced to the final rounds, only to be eliminated in the Quarter-Finals.

But the Warlocks did not go home empty-handed. We were recognized for our work with two awards: the Engineering Excellence Award sponsored by Delphi, and the Excellence in Design Award sponsored by Autodesk.

Despite our successes, we were not chosen to go to the Nationals in Atlanta and had not been entered in any other regionals, so our season is over. A possible off-season trip to an unofficial competition is being discussed.
